At Children’s Safe Harbor, the safety and well-being of children and families is our top priority. Here’s what you can expect from our Safe Exchange and Supervised Visitation services:

Safe Exchange Process

Once a family has completed the intake and orientation process, they will:

  • Receive a set schedule with specific arrival times and days of the week
  • Be added to the Safe Exchange Schedule
  • Be assigned separate entrances for each parent
  • Have staggered arrival and departure times to ensure safety

Only the Residential and Non-Residential parents are permitted to drop off or pick up the children. No other adults are allowed on-site unless:

  • They are a licensed driver bringing a parent to the center
  • They are an approved person (someone the parent has listed and received approval for to transport the child)

If a parent does not have a valid driver’s license, another adult with a valid license may bring them. Any updates to parenting plans or court orders should be shared with Children’s Safe Harbor so schedules can be adjusted as needed.

Supervised Visitation Process

After completing the intake and orientation process, families will:

  • Receive an assigned day and time slot based on availability
  • Be added to the Supervised Visitation Schedule
  • Typically have visits scheduled for one hour per week or one hour every other week

As with exchanges:

  • Each parent is assigned a separate entrance
  • Arrival and departure times are staggered for safety
  • Only the visiting parent and approved individuals (such as licensed drivers or approved persons) are allowed on-site

During the visit, a trained Children's Safe Harbor staff member will be present in the room at all times to monitor the interaction between the parent and child.
